TechDeck Proto0

Here are a few pics of the prototypes I was talking about. It looks like the sizes are about 88mm, 96mm and 102mm though they were originally labeled in standard and not metric.

These were sent to us about 6 months ago by one of the original owners of Xconcepts, Tom Davidson, with a letter telling some of the Tech deck story. Here are a few excerpts from the letter:

“In 1998 when Peter Asher and I discussed the mini skateboard product we knew we needed to substantially improve on what was in the market. We also knew we needed the support of the skating community, who at that time thought mini skateboards were not cool.

The enclosed are three original boards we came up with. Their most important presentation to the skateboard industry was to Steve Rocko, founder of World Industries…Steve did not like the idea for World. His skate team members were all in the office that day and he had them come up to the office for their opinion. It was these three boards and and that group of pro skaters that LOVED the boards that broke the ice. Steve Rocko told his CFO to finish a contract with us…Prior to that meeting I had placed many calls to (other) skate companies and recieved few calls back. After the contract with World all the doors opened.

We asked the skateboard industry what size of board we should do. The 3.75″ was the most picked. Inches do not work in the skate industry and 96mm was the right size and had a cool sound.”
