“According to the design principle “form follows function”, the new Substance Flow Shape has been conceived, not simply to resemble skateboard wheels, not simply to be distinctive, but with a clear vision in mind: designing a shape that facilitates the natural flow of fingerboarding.
Rotation is the key motion in fingerboarding. Your wheels have to rotate every time you push or pull your board and this type of rotation has been mastered for a while. What has not been yet been sufficiently addressed though is the role that fingerboard wheels play in the landing process of the board. Every flip is a rotation and at the moment you land your flip trick, your wheels have to make contact with the ground as smoothly as possible.
This is exactly what the Substance Flow Shape achieves, by providing a perfectly smooth transition between the two gorgeously rounded sides of the wheels and the perfectly flat tread. You get a much cleaner transition than you would with wheels that feature a more or less “square” profile. Also, since this shape integrates a centralized bearing design, the tread is placed right above the bearing, which translates into a perfectly balanced and stable wheel.””
