Product Blog: Prete Decks – The Hype Is Real

February 21, 2020 by MartinB. | 9:52 am

THE HYPE IS REAL.

Welcome back to another product blog. Today we will take a look at a true german primary rock: PRETE! Prete is one of the one-person-companies which is a solid part of the german fingerboard scene since forever. These decks are handmade by Peter. Everyone knows Peter. He got the fame and the bitches. But wait, he´s married and has a child now. No bitches for Peter anymore.

Since the beginning, Prete Decks has been focused on crafting up to date, performance based fingerboard decks for the worldwide community.

Is this like the second life of a fingerboard brand? Why second life? Well, in 2010 after a big big big boom in the fingerboard scene and an almost crazy hype, this primary rock of our scene decided to close down the company. Still being a fingerboarder and some kind of an inventor, Peter never opened the doors of Prete officially back again. But if the company is dead, why do we talk about Prete now?! As I said Peter is some kind of an inventor in our scene. And Peter as person was never gone. So he joined most of the events and he did his decks and inventions on poolcopings and other stuff. And at the end, he took a laser. Telling everyone Prete is dead and stepin more into the background of our scene without stepin back for real was probably the right decision to stop the huge amount of messages he received on daily basis. That was a REAL OG move, bro.

So is there a myth behind Prete? After uploading one picture of a Prete on Instagram, I´ve received a ton of messages about this deck. Prete Decks were made in small stocks since the beginning of the brand. Maybe this rareness created some kind of myth about this brand. But is there a legend behind this brand? Yes. A true fingerboarding legend called Peter.

Today we will look at something new at Prete. The decks are now (not) available in two shapes. The 6010 shape and the 6010R2 low shape. We will take a look at the decks and compare the shapes. Let´s get the party started:

Prete Decks - Double Trouble

Shape:

Prete Decks - Double Trouble

As you can see, the decks look the same at first. The only difference between these beauties is the shape. On this image we have the the classic 6010 shape on the left and the 6010R2 low shape on the right. The graphic on the bottom ply tells you whats up. So you´re wondering whats the difference is? Check out the shape comparision:

Well, the 6010 is the successor of the 6009 shape and it is some kind of the classic Prete shape. It´s the solid up to date medium shape. The 6010R2low is some kind of an prototype version of this shape. Or let´s say Peter said he´s trying something new. Both decks are about 33,5mm wide and were made with the 638 ply construction. The 638 thing is something aesthetic Peter does. Look at the shape comparision picture and you will recognize that the plies have a difference in the thickness. Thats the 638 thing Peter does. I won´t tell you the exact mm of every ply, but there is a difference about 0,5mm between some of them. I really like the look.

And one more:

Prete Decks - Double Trouble

A myth around a brand, a legend just behind it. That´s just Prete.

A Brief Prete History:

2003-2005 : Prototyping and Testing | Hardcore Mold
2006 : TR Mold (Taylor Rosenbauer) | Official Registered Company
2007: Kura & Kura G2 Mold | Metal Bottom Plies | Official Prete Logo by Lukas Kirkdorffer
2008: Kura Street Mold | ‘Around the Wold’ Teamvideo
2009: Thoth Mold | Engraved Graphics
2010-2011 : Production Stoppage
2012-2013 : 6009 Mold | Carbon Top Plies | Woodprint Graphics
2014-2017 : 6009R2 Mold | Laser Etched Graphics
2018 – : 6010 Mold | 15 Years Prete Decks

And today in early 2020 we look at these beauties. I remember most of these steps in the evolution of Prete.

Each Prete Deck is composed of a carefully hand selected blend of 5 grade A veneers, united by premium compound materials with an unique custom mold. A special wax finish underlines the beauty of the wooden grain with a silky smooth shine. The graphics are lasered into the bottom ply. As precise as you can get. Placing high importance in the handmade process, great attention to detail is assured during each step by implementing original methods of craftmanship performed with modern tools.

These decks are rare. So I don´t know if you will get the chance to buy one. Sure, you could get in contact with Peter on Instagram @pretedecks but I don´t know if you will get an answer. Thats not because of arrogance or something, it´s just like Peter will take his time and let you all know when and where the decks are available to buy. He´s dropping the decks when he wants. There is a Prete webshop, but it´s empty until judgement day: Click!

Let´s get a wrap. Hop over to Instagram and check out Prete over here: @pretedecks

THANKS a lot for this package Peter. Probably we will see each other at the Nürburgring or in Berlin this year. Let´s get rowdy then!
