Product Blog: Armkandy – Swirls

February 18, 2018 by MartinB. | 5:15 pm

Last week I´ve received a letter from Fresno, California. California seems to be the latest fingerboard hotspot of the world so it´s not a huge surprise that something really new came up from Cali. Fingerboarder like evolution. They try to build new stuff and create great products. From wooden decks to urethane wheels everything seems to be possible in these days.

Talking about urethane fingerboard wheels, this is nothing new in our scene. Since Ricardo hits the market with Oak urethane wheels are really popular in our scene. One main reason is, it´s realistic because skateboard wheels are made from urethane too. And thats the point we got something new over here. Recycling old skateboard wheels and creating fingerboard wheels out of bones, spitfires or rictas?! Thats what ARMKANDY did. He took old skateboard wheels and made fingerboard wheels out of them. So lets have a look at a set of Armkandy fingerboard wheels:

Armkandy - Swirls

As far as I know, and I´m in the fingerboard business for a long time, nobody took real skateboard wheels and created fingerboard wheels out of them. If I made a mistake just let me know :-D

I´ve mounted the wheels on a set of YTrucks and the roll round without wobbeling. Because these wheels are single bearing wheels without a backwall, you could use them on every truck system on the market without glue, washer, spacer or something else. The bearings are fast and the material is grippy. To ride these Armkandy wheels feels different to other urethane wheels. You really feel that these wheels are cutted out of a block of urethane and not poured into a form. To be honest, the craftmanship – as you can see on the pictures – is not perfect. The wheels need still some improvements I think. Todays fingerboarding standard is pretty high. A few years ago I would not have mentioned this I think. BUt think about these wheels are way cheaper than other and you get so rough urethane and even more street credebility.

Always keep in mind, fingerboarding is pure evolution and every company has it´s own evolution. So this is the same at Armkandy. There are a sets of better looking wheels on his Instagram. Just hop over and show some love @_armkandy. And if you are interested in buying a set of recycled skateboard wheels, hop over to the Armkandy webshop: Click! The wheels are about 22/23 $. This is really cheap compared to other brands.

THANKS a lot for this set of wheels. I´m really looking forward on whats coming next and the evolution of Armkandy wheels.

Product Blog: Wysocki Wheels – Midnight Emerald

December 29, 2016 by MartinB. | 8:36 am

Not that long ago I ´ve started chatting with @redwolffb on instagram. Keelan is the head behind this insta acoount and even some more stuff. Red Wolf FBS and Wysocki Wheels. You´re thinking what the fuck? Where came the name Wysocki from? Well, Keelan, the owner, is called Wysocki with his last name. So he asked me to do a review about his all new and redesigned Wysocki Wheels and I said yes. So check out the Wysocki Wheels “Midnight Emerald:

Wysocki Wheels are made of urethane just like real skateboard wheels and are offered in a variety of different colors. The wheel is available in 99A durometer, a special Wysocki wheel urethane blend that is not too soft but not too hard (perfect for shredding). They are designed for use with Blackriver trucks and Dynamic Trucks, and with mini washers they also work great on Y-Trucks and Tech Deck longoard trucks. Wysocki Wheels are handmade in Wisconsin by Keelan Wysocki.

As I told you in the beginning of this post, these Wysocki Wheels are the all new and redesigned version. The wheels are on the marked for long time in generell, but Keelan stopped the “old production” and invented everything new. He got a fully new product with this version and now it´s possbile to choose the wheelsize, the durometer, the amount of bearings (single/dual) and the color for sure. You´re not a fan of this colorway? Well, no problem! Check out the other colors:

Get what you like and even a deck!? Check out the full product line: Click!

Doing a comparison to other wheels is always hard. The Wysocki Wheels remind me totally to Joycult wheels. But the urethane is harder and the bearing in the wheels (single bearing) is centralized. So this is the point you´re coming closer to Oak wheels, but these wheels are not as hard as Oak´s. So the Wysocki wheels are the solution between Joycult and Oak – based on size, the urethane and the position of the bearing (my opinion). The wheels are perfect made for Blackriver or Dynamic trucks. On YTrucks you will need some FBS spacer for the perfect rolling.

Another thing I need to tell you, I´m still surprised how quick the wheelset was shipped to my mailbox. Only a few days for half the globe? While christmastime??? Not bad!

Thx a lot Keelan for these wheels! You guys should follow him on instagram: @redwolffb and check out the webshop: Click!

Petr is the latest member of the YTrucks team and he got his own colorway now. Just to let you know, folks, I´ve combined two sets of trucks on my latest setup (Jesus) and got the same colorway even before Petr. ;-) :-*

But let us have a look on the new YTrucks Petr Ptáček edition now:

YTrucks - Silver And Red

You allready know about this, but let me tell you the shortfacts about YTrucks:

Brand New Petr Ptacek Pro model X4 32mm Series
Color: Silver polished hanger plus a red baseplate.
AutoBlock nuts included!
Each set comes with:

– 2 Complete Trucks
– 4 AutoBlock V.II Nuts
– 8 Hexagonal Screws
– 1 Ykey II tool
– Ytrucks stickers

Made in Portugal.

These trucks fit on every fingerboard deck. You could even put single- and dualbearing wheels on. If you use single bearing wheels you could add the new washer form fingerboardstore.de:

14712563_1446758812008089_6059430287537690602_o

With the FBS Ytrucks Spacers you can use single bearing wheels like Oak Wheels or Winkler Wheels on your Ytrucks. Ytrucks are designed to be used with dual bearing wheels, so they have a longer axle than f.e. Blackriver Trucks.

The problem: Your single bearing wheels slide on the Ytrucks axle and therefore they can’t roll perfectly.

The solution: FBS Ytrucks Spacer! The Spacers replace the 2nd bearing and you can use you Oak Wheels, Winkler Wheels or other single bearing wheels on your Ytrucks.

This makes your trucks even a bit wider. Buy them: Click! You don´t need to glue anything in, just set them on your board and you are ready to ride. Perfect use with some YWheels ;-)

You wanna tune these trucks some more? Bushings?

Southsoft Bushings

Read my product blog about the new South Soft bushings: Click! I really recommend these bushings!

Even if you don´t like this colorway, there are way more available! Check out some more YTrucks product blogs right here: Click! Take what you like and get a fresh pair of trucks over here: Click! YTrucks are about 40 € including the YKey to assemble your trucks.

The quality of YTrucks is as good as most of you know. We got some legit, trusted and well known fingerboarding product right here, so you won´t regret buying a set of YTrucks.

You want some of Petrs??? Go to the Yellowoodstore in Porto or online over here: Click! There are some more new goodies are available now, just browse in the webshop and take what you need. Even the 2017 graphic decks are available NOW! Combine the parts you like and create the setup yow need. A

FBTV Company Interview – Oak Wheels0

February 13, 2011 by MartinB. | 1:19 pm

Hello Ricardo! Tell us about who you are, where you from and whats your daily business.

Hey Martin, my name is Ricardo Carvalho (Oak in portuguese) Lopes , I’m 32, from Portugal born in Cascais (near Lisbon) but living in Oporto (north Portugal) for ten years. I’ve worked in several design agency’s has Communication Designer but now I’m a freelance designer pretty involved with fingerboard world.

How do you get in touch with fingerboarding?

I started my relationship with fingerboarding when I was like 13 years old. I don’t know if this means anything to you’ll and I can’t prove it, but almost 20 years ago I did a fingerboard and build a park. They where made of carton (deck/ramps), wood (trucks/rails), paper for the wheels(rolled paper) and a lot of glue. At the time they where a toy but my concern was to simulate reality and to play skate on my desk at home.
Some years after (more then 15 :P ) and already graduated, I’ve made a new friend on my new job, this guy was a designer like me and with a big passion for skate. He had a mini skate in his workstation, he won it on McDonalds, for him this mini skate worked like a memorial to the time when he used to skate. I’ve never seen a skate so small till that time, it really remind me the skates I’ve used to make almost 20 years ago with carton and glue. I’ve tried to make an ollie with it just to see if was possible, it was!!! :)
After some search we found the word Fingerboard, then Teck Deck, then wood decks and after some time this new friend who’s name is Philippe create’s a brand called Yellowood. This was how I started my relation with Fingerboarding.

How do you get your company started?

Oak Wheels was something that happened in 2007 but (founds reasons) started officially in the Summer of 2009. Till that time I’ve alway’s used regular bearing wheels, they were cool and worked fine, but I’ve always tough that they could be more real.
My addiction to fingerboard was “killing me” and after 2 years thinking in what was possible to do I finally get the money to make it. After 3 molds of prototypes, I had on my hands the first urethane Oak Wheels made. My first impression? Mucho Feeeeeeeling… The rest of the story you know it already ;)

What plans do you got for 2011?

Since the first Oak Wheels a lot of things happened, new colors, new versions always looking for the best relation grip/performance with urethane. I think that I finally made it with V.2, the feedback from the Oak Wheels Team and from all Fingerboard Community is great. My next step is to have all colors in V.2 and after it something new will happen ;)
Beside all products improvements, Oak Wheels, Yellowood and Ytrucks are working in a new place for fingerboarding called Ystore Terrace. This place will be the first place and store 100% dedicated to Fingerboarding. It will be sick and a big improvement for our national community and also for international community. Soon we will officially announce this new place ;)

Is this your daytime job?

For this last few months I’m dedicated 90% to Oak Wheels and 10% to my freelance job.

Whats your current setup?

My current setup is a Yw Z2 Brownie, Ytruks X2 White and some Oak Wheels White 2.0.

Do you have any „sneak-preview“ for 2011?

hum…. well there are already some shots around of something new and some other are being planned. but that’s it ahahahaha.

Which fingerboard experience you liked the most (contest/jam/session)?

Like everybody all international contests are amazing, FS3 was really cool, FF13 was also sick, the days after contest were amazing and of course Fingaspot our local contest, small but with a lot of potential, good vibe and good environment.

And finally do you want to thank someone?

First to FingerboardTV for the invitation and for all the support given since the star of Oak Wheels.
Thanks to all Oak Wheels supporters and Oak Wheels Team riders for believing in something different and to make it unique.

THX Ricardo! Now go and check out the Oak wheels website: Click!
