Product Blog: Musta Cheese – Old School

January 25, 2019 by MartinB. | 8:40 am

Cheesus! I´ve posted the first Musta Cheese product blog last week and the reaction on Instagram was just fantastic. Thats the way to go, community!

In Europe there are only a few fingerboard brands left. Even Italy had a strong scene back in the days and I think it´s quiet around Italy in these days. So I´m really glad to feature a really cool european brand from Italy: Musta Cheese Fingerboards! Giacomo founded his brand in 2017, so Musta Cheese is some kind of new to the scene, but the growth of the brand is extraordinary. So Giacomo is not only doing normal fingerboards, he´s doing old school decks as well. So lets have a look at some super nice italien fingerboard deck, again:

Musta Cheese - Old School

Shape:

Musta Cheese - Old School

This battleship is about35mm wide. Thats massive. The nose is smaller and you have a square tail. Everything feels like back in the days.

The wood on this deck is a nice and solid green color. It looks a little bit vintage and is shiny as fuck. The texture is nice and simple, good job! This wood is like a salmon in the sea . . .

The deck is made from 5 plies of canadian maple, soaked in aniline, the exact same procedure applied to real skateboards. Layers are glued together with polyurethanic glue and cold pressed to improve performances and wood resistance. The shape of this deck is old school and perfect round and the concave is just clean. There is a guy making decks with passion. Without passion you won´t get such a super good product. This Musta Cheese fingerboard deck is about 35mm. You can order smaller deck if you like at the Musta Cheese Shop. All boards are customizable, even in length and width:

. width 29-50 mm (1.14-1.97 inch)
. length 95-100 mm (3.74-3.94 inch)

get what you like and need!

The craftmanship is perfect. Besides the round and perfect shape, the countersinks of this deck are perfect and you get some sort of Musta Cheese tag on top ply.

The package is the classic fingerboard package. It´s the little zip back with printed cardboard. You get a sheet of tape with every deck and some stickers. Just a fingerboard basic but the cardboard has a nice all over print if you care about the package. On the old school decks you will get a keychain as well, I think. This package included one, so I think it´s some kind of an old school bonus.

These decks are hot. On Instagram @mustacheese_fb fingerboards are the next brand to watch. So hop over and share some likes. There is no website, but there is a Etsy shop available. There are some decks in stock: Click!

THX a lot for this package Giacomo! I will keep an eye on you! Consider me as an fan of your work!

Product Blog: Musta Cheese Fingerboards – Brain

January 20, 2019 by MartinB. | 10:11 am

Cheesus!

At the beginning of every new year you really feel that the fingerboard scene is a little smaller like the year before. Or it seems like this.

In Europe there are a few fingerboard brands left. So have some nice sunday morning with some italien fingerboard deck:

Musta Cheese - Cheesehead Skull

Shape:

The shape is just perfect round. This is a 34mm wide fingerboard deck.

The graphic is some kind of splatter. It´s a head split in twice. You see the skin, you see the skull and you see the cheese. A piece of cheese is the brain of the head.So splatter might be the wrong word!? I really don´t know. The graphic itself is some kind of “Water Transfer Decal” with some transparent parts, so you can see the wood under the graphic. The graphic is super colorful with solid and strong colors and it´s done perfect on this deck. After that the decks are coated with different layers of crystal clear varnish to better graphics endurance.

The deck is made from 5 plies of canadian maple, soaked in aniline, the exact same procedure applied to real skateboards. Layers are glued together with polyurethanic glue and cold pressed to improve performances and wood resistance. The shape of this deck is perfect round and the concave is just clean. . length 95-100 mm (3.74-3.94 inch)

get what you like and need!

The craftmanship is perfect. Besides the round and perfect shape, the countersinks of this deck are perfect and you get some sort of Musta Cheese tag on top ply. So I think Italy is not only about Pizza :-D

The package is the classic fingerboard package. It´s the little zip back with printed cardboard. You get a sheet of tape with every deck and some stickers. Just a fingerboard basic but the cardboard has a nice all over print if you care about the package.

Product Blog: Armkandy – Swirls

February 18, 2018 by MartinB. | 5:15 pm

Last week I´ve received a letter from Fresno, California. California seems to be the latest fingerboard hotspot of the world so it´s not a huge surprise that something really new came up from Cali. Fingerboarder like evolution. They try to build new stuff and create great products. From wooden decks to urethane wheels everything seems to be possible in these days.

Talking about urethane fingerboard wheels, this is nothing new in our scene. Since Ricardo hits the market with Oak urethane wheels are really popular in our scene. One main reason is, it´s realistic because skateboard wheels are made from urethane too. And thats the point we got something new over here. Recycling old skateboard wheels and creating fingerboard wheels out of bones, spitfires or rictas?! Thats what ARMKANDY did. He took old skateboard wheels and made fingerboard wheels out of them. So lets have a look at a set of Armkandy fingerboard wheels:

Armkandy - Swirls

As far as I know, and I´m in the fingerboard business for a long time, nobody took real skateboard wheels and created fingerboard wheels out of them. If I made a mistake just let me know :-D

I´ve mounted the wheels on a set of YTrucks and the roll round without wobbeling. Because these wheels are single bearing wheels without a backwall, you could use them on every truck system on the market without glue, washer, spacer or something else. The bearings are fast and the material is grippy. To ride these Armkandy wheels feels different to other urethane wheels. You really feel that these wheels are cutted out of a block of urethane and not poured into a form. To be honest, the craftmanship – as you can see on the pictures – is not perfect. The wheels need still some improvements I think. Todays fingerboarding standard is pretty high. A few years ago I would not have mentioned this I think. BUt think about these wheels are way cheaper than other and you get so rough urethane and even more street credebility.

Always keep in mind, fingerboarding is pure evolution and every company has it´s own evolution. So this is the same at Armkandy. There are a sets of better looking wheels on his Instagram. Just hop over and show some love @_armkandy. And if you are interested in buying a set of recycled skateboard wheels, hop over to the Armkandy webshop: Click! The wheels are about 22/23 $. This is really cheap compared to other brands.

THANKS a lot for this set of wheels. I´m really looking forward on whats coming next and the evolution of Armkandy wheels.

Product Blog: Wysocki Wheels – Midnight Emerald

December 29, 2016 by MartinB. | 8:36 am

Not that long ago I ´ve started chatting with @redwolffb on instagram. Keelan is the head behind this insta acoount and even some more stuff. Red Wolf FBS and Wysocki Wheels. You´re thinking what the fuck? Where came the name Wysocki from? Well, Keelan, the owner, is called Wysocki with his last name. So he asked me to do a review about his all new and redesigned Wysocki Wheels and I said yes. So check out the Wysocki Wheels “Midnight Emerald:

Wysocki Wheels - Midnight Emerald

And one more:

Wysocki Wheels - Midnight Emerald

Wysocki Wheels are made of urethane just like real skateboard wheels and are offered in a variety of different colors. The wheel is available in 99A durometer, a special Wysocki wheel urethane blend that is not too soft but not too hard (perfect for shredding). They are designed for use with Blackriver trucks and Dynamic Trucks, and with mini washers they also work great on Y-Trucks and Tech Deck longoard trucks. Wysocki Wheels are handmade in Wisconsin by Keelan Wysocki.

As I told you in the beginning of this post, these Wysocki Wheels are the all new and redesigned version. The wheels are on the marked for long time in generell, but Keelan stopped the “old production” and invented everything new. He got a fully new product with this version and now it´s possbile to choose the wheelsize, the durometer, the amount of bearings (single/dual) and the color for sure. You´re not a fan of this colorway? Well, no problem! Check out the other colors:

Get what you like and even a deck!? Check out the full product line: Click!

Doing a comparison to other wheels is always hard. The Wysocki Wheels remind me totally to Joycult wheels. But the urethane is harder and the bearing in the wheels (single bearing) is centralized. So this is the point you´re coming closer to Oak wheels, but these wheels are not as hard as Oak´s. So the Wysocki wheels are the solution between Joycult and Oak – based on size, the urethane and the position of the bearing (my opinion). The wheels are perfect made for Blackriver or Dynamic trucks. On YTrucks you will need some FBS spacer for the perfect rolling.

Another thing I need to tell you, I´m still surprised how quick the wheelset was shipped to my mailbox. Only a few days for half the globe? While christmastime??? Not bad!

Thx a lot Keelan for these wheels! You guys should follow him on instagram: @redwolffb and check out the webshop: Click!
