Product Blog: Freak Decks – Sapphire

April 4, 2019 by MartinB. | 8:41 am

Spain! It´s been a while! Long time I´ve not received fingerboard stuff from Spain. The last packages from Spain were sent by Slam Concretes and South Soft bushings. Haven´t heard something from these companies for a while know !? and the product blogs I did were made in 2017 and 2016. So yes, it´s been a while that I´ve received fingerboard stuff from Spain. Maybe one reason for this is because the huge super super ultimate boom in Europe is over. Many companies closed their doors. Even Fingercan closed the website and is only on Instagram now. Thats sad but maybe there will be better days in future. The core will stay – hopefully!

I´m happy to have a “new” company right here with me. Freak Decks are made by Adrian Darrosa from Spain. Adrian founded the company in 2016 – I consider this as “new” – and offers handmade fingerboards from Spain. Everything on Freak Decks is made by Adrian by hand. So let´s have a look at some Sapphire fingerboard deck in some ultimate color:

Freak Decks - Sapphire

The Sapphire is one of the four most important gemstones in the world. It is the stone that represents wisdom and truth. In ancient times it was believed that the sky was blue because it was a reflection of the sapphires that were on earth.

Shape:

The deck is overall about 34mm wide. Nose and tail have the classic popsicle shape. The shape is overall medium (concave and kicks). Classic and up to date.

Let´s talk about this deck.

The “Sapphire” graphic is one graphic of a three precious stones series called “HUMILITY WISDOM & LOVE”. Adrian asked me on Instagram which one I want and I took this one, because I´m just a fan of this solid blue color. As you can see on the pictures, this color is more than solid. It´s fresh and clean like the blue sky at the beach. The graphic looks like a super thin foil on the deck, but I think it´s printed on paper. So this is not a real wear deck. In my opinion that doesn´t matter, because even the printed graphics won´t last forever and look wasted after heavy using. Many companies like Y for example still use this technique.

The shape. This deck is overall about 34mm wide. Nose and tail have the classic popsicle shape. The shape is overall medium (concave and kicks). It´s just classic and up to date. I think on some of the images the deck looks a bit thicker than other ones. Well, thats not true. The deck is normal thin. Maybe the reason for this is, that the edges are not as round as on other decks. So don´t worry about this, everything is fine with the thickness of this deck. It´s just like some decks look more anorexic than others :-D

The holes on this one look clean and symetric. The countersinks are shape like the head of your mounting screws. The sanding job is fine, as I said these are not the roundest/anorexic edges I´ve ever seen, but maybe this is just because I had these LAFB decks in my hands for the last couple of days. So these edges are standard sanded like on many other companies too. To be honest, before I had these LAFB decks, I never thought that the edges of a deck make such a difference. Don´t get me wrong, while using you won´t feel the difference. It´s just on macro pictures. These edges are clean and solid!

How to order? Well, you can find Freak Decks EVERYWHERE! Get them on Instagram at first: @freakdecks Check out the website: Click! And give him a like on Facebook: Click!

THANK a lot for this deck Adrian. It´s great to see that there is still fingerboarding in Spain! Keep it up!

Product Blog: Los Angeles Fingerboards – Space Force

April 2, 2019 by MartinB. | 3:26 pm

Los Angeles is on place #2 of the biggest cities in the US and at the moment I would say that California is the hotspot #1 in fingerboarding on this planet. I´ve been once to L.A. and this city is just crazy! As I told you guys more than once I liked this coast of the US more than the “other one”. No hate, I´m just a fan of sunshine and all these California girls.

Los Angeles Fingerboards are named like this, because this brand started in L.A.. @losangelesfingerboards got not only the attention of the scene because of the decks he made, he made some of the best replicas of skateboarding spots in fingerboard size. On the instagram site there is just more than fingerboard decks. You guys would be stupid not checking @losangelesfingerboards

Let´s have a look at some fingerboard deck. Today will continue with the third deck of four. It´s a real wear graphic deck from LAFB called “Space Force”, check that beast out:

Los Angeles Fingerboards - Space Force

Talking abot a “Space Force” might be a political thing. When I´ve heard the first time about Mr. T´s plans concerning a space force a few months ago I laughed hard. For me it´s still not possible that this guy was “elected” to be head of state. This graphic is btw 100% sarcasm if you´re not sure, consider it as caricature/joke ;-) This graphic reminds me a little bit at the “Osama” Adrian Lopez deck which was made by Zero Skateboards back in the days.

But, about the graphic. It´s a real wear graphic which is sharp and really colorful. It´s plotted perfect oon the deck and the quality of the print is super nice. On this one you have a little LAFB lettering on the site of the deck. The galaxy background looks perfect.

Let´s talk about the craftmansship of the third deck: And again PERFECT. Only one word, PERFECT.

The countersinks are straight and so fucking clean, you won´t get cleaner countersinks in heaven. I mean, just check this out:

Los Angeles Fingerboards - Space Force

Aren´t these the cleanest countersinks you have ever seen????

Talking about the craftmansship, you need to talk about the sanding job on the edges. Every company has their own style of sanding edges. I´ve never seen a sanding job with this sort of round edges ever before. These edges are just smooth, clean and super round. Like on a realy skateboard. It seems like he is watching the curves of California girls while sanding. I had a lot fingerboard decks in my hands within my “fingerboarding career” but I´ve really seen such round edges on a fingerboard. I´m really stoked.

10/10 points for the craftmansship of a LAFB deck! Really good job!

LAFB offer 4 shapes. Thats the reason why I´ve recieved 4 decks. LAFB is more than just decks, it´s miniature art you can use.

How to order? Well, a few different sorts of decks are available on the website. There are a lot different graphic decks available at the moment. This graphic is in stock too: Click! You guys and girls should really follow the instagram site to get the latest news about events, crazy replicas and the next stock. You really won´t regret!

THX a lot for these decks. The next review will be up soon!
