Wide? Loooow? Ya heard right! The new Berlinwoods are out! Check this:

The shape:

And even this “Wood Wars” graphic is part of the new Berlinwood graphic line:

Compared to the regular Berlinwood decks the „wide low shapes“ have less concave and more surface to a better control. The craftmanship however is on the same quality level as is usual.
Why a different shape? A broader selection complies the increasing sophistication of different fingerboard styles. With different shapes to choose from you can pick a board fitting your individual needs.

Product Blog: Blackriver-Fingerboards – Ruben Young Pro

November 1, 2020 by MartinB. | 12:49 pm

Pop – Flip – Catch – Smile – That might be the slogan behind this fingerboard deck.

Happy Halloween and welcome to a new product blog right here on fingerboardTV. It´s sunday right after the Halloween night and today we will take a look at the new Ruben Young PRO fingerboard deck. His last PRO deck was released at Berlinwood and as the most of you probably know, Blackriver-Ramps is not only distributing Berlinwood Fingerboards anymore, they created their own label and dropped Blackriver-Fingerboards to the market as an addition to the normal product range of the webshop.

So today we will check out one of the first new Blackriver-Fingerboards, made by Blackriver-Ramps:

Blackriver-Fingerboards - Ruben Young PRO Deck

Shape:

Blackriver-Fingerboards - Ruben Young PRO Deck

This deck is about 33,3mm wide and the shape is called the classic shape. You will recognize it from the classic shape from Berlinwood. It´s just the same. You don´t need to improve everything since Berlinwood offers a lot different shapes and Blackriver-Fingerboards only offer the classic shape at the moment.

Blackriver-Fingerboards - Ruben Young PRO Deck

A sepcial thing on these decks? The 7-ply powerpop contruction. What does that mean? Well, other fingerboard decks are made with 5 plies. This one is made from 7 plies. This should improve your POP and makes the deck “stronger”. When you take the deck out of the package and start checking it out you will really notice, that this deck is stronger. It´s not that flexi and soft if you try to warp the deck, it´s much stronger.

Many fingerboard companies released special editions of 7/9 ply fingerboards in the past. But there was no brand to bring these out “mass-produced” before. So thats something special.

And one more:

Such a 7ply Blackriver Board will noticeably improve your pop. After days in the secret research laboratory and further weeks of crash tests, Blackriver can proudly present the 7ply powerpop construction. Due to the improved board strength not only your kickflips will be over the roof. A strong deck with lots of POP. You won´t notive the two extra plies in terms of the weight of this deck. The only thing you notice is the colorful arrangement of plies when you check out the deck from the side. The deck looks a little bit thicker than other, but thats just because of the sanding of the deck. The edges are sanded perfect at all, but these are not as round as some other companies to it. So don´t worry, that not a thick piece of ham, everything is fine with the thickness of the deck.

Let´s talk about the package. It´s the classic Blackriver box with the black inlay. Ya all know my opinion that a good fingerboard doesn´t need a big package. Just because of saving us from garbage everywhere you can. But I accept the point, that the kids love fancy packages and thats the reason why these decks are packed like this. And for sure looks a fingerboard in such a package more professional and significant. But I remember that Denise and Martin love our planet as much as I do and probably they will change the package in future!? I would really appreciate it.

So this is a new Blackriver-Fingerboard. What to tell about the quality and the craftsmanship? I never had a product from Blackriver with a bad craftsmanship at all. So I felt certain that even the new decks are well done as well. And yes, it is. The deck isn´t warped, the sanding is done correct, the graphic is clean and shape and the countersinks are straight and clean drilled. The graphic is made as a realwear graphic with transparent parts so the Ruben YOung pro will look different with every wooden bottom ply. Many many many combinations are possible.

If you don´t like this graphic and just want to get something more like a classic Blackriver graphic, just check out the webshop. Many graphics are available on Blackriver-Fingerboards. You will always get a 33,3mm deck with the 7ply powerpop construction in the classic shape. Complete decks are available as well: Click! Please notice that the minilogo decks and the Envoyage edition decks are 5 ply decks.

SO thanks Oliver and the othere at Blackriver-Ramps for the latest package. More product blogs are coming soon.

And what would be better than fingerboard footage of the head behind this graphic to close this product blog? Right, nothing. So watch Ruben Young shredding this deck in the release video:

Ruben Young is not only a stylish person in many aspects of his life (fingerboarding, skateboarding, vanlife, clothing and looks) but the definition of drive. His positive can-do attitude shows in several projects across the country. Especially when it comes to concrete projects he´s unstoppable, which resulted in many high quality Fingerboard- and Skateparks. Therefore it´s a no-brainer for us to reward him with a Pro Model, that´s almost as stylish as Ruben himself.

Product Blog: Blackriver-Trucks – The 34mm Affair

December 4, 2018 by MartinB. | 5:17 pm

After the release of the latest limited edition deck made by Berlinwood I was in contact with Timo Lieben. He told me that he will send me one of these decks soon. As I received the package, there was not only one Berlinwood deck in it, the package contained two Berlinwoods and one set of the new 34mm Blackriver-Trucks. Since Martin from Blackriver and me had some disagreements in the past and we stopped working together I was really surprised by these set of trucks.

Well, let´s talk about these trucks in general.

Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm

Hands down, Blackriver-Trucks are some of the best fingerboard trucks on the market. They perform great, look great and after a few bugs of the first generations they work perect. Don´t get me wrong, this is not my first set of Blackriver-Trucks and I never had issues with them, but I would consider me more as an advanced user and I know how to treat fingerboard stuff right.

So check them out:

Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm

Shape:

Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm

More:

Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm

Footage:

And one more:

Blackriver-Trucks - 34mm

The BRR trucks pack contains:

– 1 pair of BRR trucks incl. special locking nuts
– 8 mounting screws
– 1 tool for easier installation

This edition is available in black, silver and gold. Three clean colors.

BUT, you´ve probably noticed that this product blog is called “The 34mm Affair”. You´re asking why? Well, since the trucks were released a few weeks ago a small shitstorm started. Why? These trucks aren´t 34mm they are actually 33mm. 1mm less and everybody screams…

Why? OK, if you order a set of fingerboard trucks in 34mm you want some trucks in 34mm. Thats a good reason to get angry. Maybe Blackriver should switch the name to 33mm and put new stickers on the packages. I don´t care. Think about that 34mm trucks are wider than the 33,3 mm Berlinwoods. Would you really use wider trucks than your deck? That looks horrible. Since Berlinwoods are available in 33,3mm I´ve waited for 33mm BRTs. Now the trucks fit perfect to some of the best fingerboards on this planet. Just because one hater posted the measurements on the web everybody is hating. I think our whole scene has bigger problems than that. Some of you guys should grow up.

So you have a 34mm deck and the trucks are to small for your battleship? Well, I´m using a 34/35mm deck made by Greasy at the moment. You could use big wheels like the Fatman wheels or just buy other trucks. YTrucks for example are wider than these. Thats a way you get the widest combo as possible. Or just buy these and shut up.

Don´t get me wrong, I´m not saying it´s OK to sell these 33mm as 34mm trucks, but for me it just doesn´t matter. I don´t give a fuck at all.

Just my two cents about this. I´m happy to have a set of these trucks. Thanks a lot Timo and Martin. You guys wanna buy a set? Get them right before christmas: Click!

Product Blog: G-Sheets – Fingerboard Tape

October 15, 2018 by MartinB. | 7:39 am

I remember the times when BRR dropped their first riptape. The sheets were precut sheets for Tech Decks and the old Berlinwood G1 decks. Some couple of (maybe) years Katha dropped her FBS tape. For several years these two sorts of tape were the only tapes you can get and the only tapes you could really use with a great performance.

In the fingerboard scene everything changed. Back in the days you got only a few deck/wheel/truck companies. In these days and the days of Instagram there are a lot more fingerboarding companies for every product. Hate it or love it.

Tape companies are growing on daily basis, just because a lot of kids out there thinking about making some quick money with foamtape. If you are a real fingerboarder you should know: tape is not tape. You need a good one. The right one. One with great performance and grip.

Sooooo, some weeks ago I´ve received a letter with fingerboard tape. This letter was sent by Mr. Ismael Garcia from Cannon Artesia (NM). He is the owner of this brand and a soldier as well, working for the US army. I couldn´t imagine how tough it is to run a fingerboard company with all the shipping and stock stuff and beeing a member of the army at the same time. When you´re joining the army in Germany you´re just based somewhere and you are not at home for months.

Let´s have a look at his tape. The company is called G-Sheets and he is offering fingerboard tape. Classic and black. Check it out:

G-G-G-G-G-G-G-UNIT! Nope, not this time. No 50Cent or whatever over here. Btw what happends to the G-Unit? You hear nothing about them in Europe anymore. Back to the Tape: you can get 5/7 packs of black fingerboard tape at G-Sheets. The tape is about 36mm Wide x 110mm Long so it fits to all fingerboard decks. Having the tape in my hands, you can really feel the fine pores. This tape is a mix between FBS and BRR but it´s even softer than both of them. I really like how it feels. Just racked my latest setup with a G-Sheet now and while fingerboarding it performs superb. Really like it. Just get a pack of this tape, you won´t regret ordering. The new logo of this brand and the small sticker look superb as well!

I´m riding it, I`m loving it. Order some tape at G-Sheets: Click! and show some love at the INstagram site: @gsheetsfb

Product Blog: Fatpap – Riptape

September 30, 2018 by MartinB. | 1:14 pm

In the fingerboard scene everything changed, Back in the days you got only a few deck/wheel/truck companies.

Today we will take a look at Fatpap. Fatpap is a tape company from the US offering tape for you fingerboard and handboard. Lets have a look at it:

Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape

Shape:

Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape

Sheet Dimensions:
Thickness: 1mm
Width: 38mm
Length: 110mm

More:

Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape

And one more:

Fatpap - Fingerboard Riptape

At Fatpap you can get three different collors of tape. You can get the classic black one, mortar grey and brick red tape. Every color has the same thickness and the sheets have always the same dimensions.

While checking out the sheets I´ve noticed, that the colors perform not the same:

Classic Black: The classic black tape got pores like most of the other tapes on the market. It´s solid black and grippy. The tape is not as soft as FBS and reminds me on the classic BRR tape just with more pores.

Mortar Grey: The grey one feels soft. You don´t feel pores and you even can´t see them. The grey tape is not as grippy as the black one but in my opinion it feels softer than the black one.

Brick Red: The brick red tape feels as hard as the black one and you don´t feel pores like on the grey one. So it seems to be like the brick red tape is a mix of the grey and the black one.

On the Fatpap website there is no information about the softness of the tape. Maybe these impressions about the tapes are only my personal feeling!? I don´t know. Get some sheets and try it on your own! Maybe the grey and red tape needs some more time wearing in.

I really like the fact that Fatpap is offering colored tape. This is not the first company doing this and probably not the last one. On my next setup I will try out the grey tape, just because I really like grey as color for everything.

You can get in contact with Fatpap on Instagram: @fatpap.griptape and on their website: click! You could order single sheets and big packs in every selection of colors you like. Just get what you need!

THX a lot for the tape boiiiiii!

Product Blog: Skowood – Splitply Deck

February 17, 2017 by MartinB. | 12:30 pm

This was the first time in the history of fingerboardTV that I´ve received a letter from Poland. Poland is a european country. There is a a Polish/German boarder pretty close to Berlin. You guys outside Europe maybe know the biggest city of the country: Warschau. Or even if you´ve never heard about Poland as a country, everybody knows the Warschauer Straße in Berlin. #touristfact

Poland got a small fingerboarding scene and this is one more good reason to be happy about this package and brand. The worldwide fingerboarding family. This letter was sent by Maciej Skowron. You know this guy? You guessed right! Maciej is the owner of Skowood fingerboards. A one of a kind professional fingerboard brand from Poland. Check out the first part of the package:

Skowood - Splitply

Shape:

Skowood - Splitply

The Skowood shape is nice and contemporary. The nose and tail are a bit shorter than a Berlinwood for example. 100% up to date!

The package:

Skowood - Triangle

A one of a kind fingerboard package in the scene!

And one more:

Skowood - Splitply

As I told you in the introduction, Skowood is a brand from Poland. Maciej makes every deck by hand only. You won´t see an unperfect edge on this deck. Every sheed of the wood on this deck got a solid and bright color. The parts for this splitply deck are cutted out perfect. As I told you, no unperfect edge! There are not only normal fingerboards in the Skowood product line. Maciej makes a lot of different cuts with creative handpaintings and even some collabos with some other brands. He´s the guy who came up with the triangle nose —> you should check out his instagram @skowood1 for his portfolio!

Go and check out the full media madness of Skowood:

Webshop: Click!

I´mn really sorry I need to tell you, there are no boards left in the webshop at the moment. Skowood is a core fingerboard brand and the stock is mostly sold out within one day. The next stock announcement will be up this site for sure!

Thx a lot for this little letter of happyness from Poland, Maciej! I really appreciate the work you do for your and our scene!
